Punch and Judy-
These two 16" x 20" original acrylic paintings, "Punch" and "Judy," were created as flanking pieces to a large 24" x 36" anchor work, completing a single triptych collection titled "Color Abyss." I created them after the fact to elongate the collection to a scale that would better fit the room and a specific sofa. The client had just installed art lights, and the intense complementary colors and shapes were chosen to truly come alive under the new illumination. The pieces are painted in heavy-body acrylic paints, which are known to resist fading and cracking over time. I used a high-gloss sealing varnish over the finished works to maintain the brilliance and depth of the colors. I also applied a matching varnish to the central piece. This final glazing unified the once-separate independent works into a comprehensive and evocative story triptych. Framed in simple, matching walnut floater frames, the presentation feels complete. While a matte finish is available, I prefer the rich, deep quality a gloss varnish gives to the acrylic. These two original works are a testament to the power of art to evolve and adapt to a space.
