This original oil was inspired by waking up and sitting on the balcony of my apartment in Villefranche Sur Mer on the French Riveria. Villefranche is one of the prettiest 16th century towns on the French Riviera, with its picture-perfect, horseshoe-shaped bay – known as La Rade de Villefranche. The light, as Picasso, Monet, Pisarrio and other artists found is unlike no other in the world. The morning light over the peninsula of Cap Ferat with its villas and the garden plantings at my feet caught my eye. It's prominent, intense color perfectly represents the summer morning light coming over the land from Monaco as well as the water view into the Med. The work is bright and thick as the land masses are totally done with a pallet knife and the sky brushed and blended with extraordinary use of pinks, violets, yellows and blues to create an atmospheric circus of light. It is an imperfect view across the bay exactly as it appeared to me that morning. Pictured in a walnut wood stained floater frame, I also have thin metal, gold and silver frames which I can show you. This work hangs wonderfully unframed.
