This original oil was inspired by an late harvest day in Sonoma, California, just off Whatmaugh road. It was 95 degrees with no end of Summer in sight. I stopped the car and snapped a photo of this scene. It seemed all the grapes were picked and sure to be crushed by now, however there was just one last bunch left for me. This was a very complicated study in depth and color which I started on paper, which I never do, especially with oil and it transformed over weeks. The use of the complimentary colors and pallet knife work is THICK. This piece is mounted on a stretched canvas for durability and easy framing however only a 3/4 inch thick canvas was used so the edges can float.
